Ffoto Alternative @ Bodalwydden 2013

artwork

For just under two years now I have been working with the group Ffoto Alternative and planning their biggest exhibition to date at Bodelwyddan Castle. The work was to document the 25th anniversary of the castle. Also alongside our work we was lucky to be paired with the National Portrait Gallery who brought a  selection of work up from 1988 this featured photos of The Stone Roses, Run DMC, Steven Hawkins to name a few. A great honour to be alongside such images of icons. The work that I put into the show was seen first on google maps. I noticed that there was an old drive way to the castle. Back in February I went to document the trees. This would then be placed in a filling cabinet in the exhibition. that you would walk through with your hands. The first image was pixellated the last image in-front of the castle was clear to give a sense of distance. I like the fact the filing cabinet was closed so only the keen-eyed viewer would even know it was there.

This gallery in milazzo castle will take some beating.

I walked to the store yesterday done the back lane totally out in the fields and every so often there would be a strong smell of cannabis like its growing wild. There missing a trick if it is 🙂

Got a good solid collection of pil boxes i think ive got 12 or 13 images to project in the vault of the castle.

We are told we will get a tour of parts of the castle not open to the public. Watch out tony Robinson and time team

This is the video of me performing a visual projection on Conwy Castle in North Wales. It was part of the blinc digital arts festival 2012. I wrote it while traveling along the A5 between Capel Curig and Bethesda in the Snowdonia National park. It was written listening to the Beach boys on one of the only sunny days that we had this summer

In the blinc

Well what a Weekend. Dogged by technical problems due to the power timers in the lights. I had a good response to the poems in the Bird Boxes along the cob leading you into Conwy and my projection on the castle. Thousands of people headed to Conwy, North Wales over the Three day blinc digital artsfestival. inspired by the work of Alan Turing. Which took place in the evening after the Conwy feast eating extravaganza.

All the indents for my work were done by Ronan Devlin www.orieljeindevlin.com

This was up on friday at 3pm when i felt like the world was going to end. I had so much support from the people running blinc.

You can listen to all my poems here My #noirconwy that was projected from the bird boxes

My A5 Poem Projection

The highlight was seeing my face on the castle (photography by Roger Smith check out his work it here http://www.flickr.com/photos/roj/ )

I’ve reworked the projection for the small screen 🙂

I felt so much joy from the weekend after the stress and deflation from the hectic build up on thursday and friday. I just sat on sunday all night thing where I was this time last year. What better way to capture my feelings than I n a few words.

Of an eye…

At the start of winter nights

Mist enhances light.

Cold soles warm heart.

The projection knights.

The homeless man,

He took it in.

Told me don’t fear the dark,

just watch the rain

I now can stride.

In the past I tried,

Ancient brick walls

Beam with pride.

Its drawing in,

Water on skin.

The streets feel.

The last night still

stoking the glow.

We must move,

Project our souls.

Now understanding,

By passing our goals?

Believing in progress does not mean believing that any progress has yet been made. Franz Kafka

Well a belated Happy New Year…

Or is just another step in the right direction. I knew I loved this image before I even took the photograph. Maybe I need to think more along the lines of seeing is believing. I often see what I have done but can’t believe that I did it.

If you look closely at the step you can see me clinging to the bottom step. Looking behind me to see that the tide is not encroaching me in the same way that my mind often does. You don’t see where the steps take you as I know not what awaits me around the corner. Returning to the tide that comes in and goes out. I guess I’m the same  I will always take photographs just in different styles some in a high state of mind some in low state of mind either rough or smooth.

I seem to have many directions at the start of the year in front of me to help steady foot my way to the top of the stairs. Yet unlike last year, no clear goals. I have a busy month with an exciting opportunity in  Colwyn Bay which is setting itself aims and objectives that can only challenge may vision and ethos for the good, while working in a totally new way. I have my work in the Galleri Open in Caernarfon at the end of this week. I also have some positive Filmic accessions to get excited about. oh and just reward in one area. I feel was disclaimed the attention it deserved by the powers that had more than enough opportunity than to just let it be!

Anyway Onwards
