AUSTRALIA. Melbourne. The Melbourne Cup. The Melbourne Cup is Australia's major annual thoroughbred horse race and covers a distance of 3,200 metres. 2008.

This is a picture of Martin Parr‘s work that will be in the Brighton Biennial. Parr has become the king of the hard-hitting juxtaposition. For all the elegance of this image it still looks tacky. Do you feel the women is single is she waiting for her man. The lady in an evening dress wearing a sports watch. The statue has his arm raised mirror imaging the lady on the phone. the highlight of the photograph for me is the painting that look like it is not straight on the stairwell. As ever so much to see and do in a parr picture. People find it easy to take a pop at parr. He is the only person making money from his work while alive on a massive scale. I think he constantly challenges his own yard stick
