Some great examples of photomontage early origins in The former Czechoslovakia. It was a part of the constructivism movement started by Alexander Rodchenko. From what I interpritate it was under the slogan of “art for art’s sake“. I see this as doing it because you can rather a real direction. Sort of making the image work. The right angle always seems very popular in this type of work. Making it feel stern and aggressive. it almost grabs your attention and demands you look twice. The image always veer strong towards depth of field. I think this is way the where such a powerful tool in the Communist propaganda machine
